Let's Keep Going.</h2><h3>Karinés Reyes has been a Bronxite for nearly 30 years; if you want to understand why she ran for office, you have to start there: with the Bronx, and with everything that shaped her before Albany.</h3>After Hurricane Maria, she was among the first nurses sent by New York State to Puerto Rico. Before she ever ran for office, she was already in Albany, lobbying for single-payer healthcare and safer nurse-to-patient ratios.She won her Assembly seat in 2018 and has spent four terms doing what she came to do. She's introduced legislation to protect reproductive rights, defend immigrant communities, expand healthcare coverage, get free books to kids statewide, and make sure seniors have real access to the relief programs they're owed. None of it is accidental; it's all connected to the same community she's been part of for nearly 20 years.In her fifth term, she's focused on what matters most to Bronx families right now: affordable healthcare, affordable housing, and protecting immigrants from federal overreach. <h2>Getting Things Done in Albany</h2>Karinés doesn't just introduce bills. She gets them signed. Her legislative record reflects a commitment to workers, women, and the marginalized:<ul><li>Protecting Workers:&nbsp;Karinés championed the&nbsp;Retail Worker Safety Act, providing panic buttons and violence prevention plans for retail employees, and the&nbsp;Roadway Excavation Quality Assurance Act, guaranteeing prevailing wages for infrastructure workers. She also secured victory with the&nbsp;New York State Fashion Workers Act, ensuring basic labor protections for creatives and models.</li><li>Fighting for Justice &amp; Equity:&nbsp;She dismantled systemic bias by passing the&nbsp;"Incorrigible Bill,"&nbsp;removing offensive language from Family and Education laws that historically targeted girls of color. From distributing tens of thousands of units of fresh produce during the pandemic to expanding SNAP benefits so that our seniors, disabled residents, and unhoused neighbors can purchase hot meals at local restaurants, Karinés is tackling food insecurity head-on.
